Biological Wastewater Treatment and Reuse Group

With the increase of water environment quality standard and the deterioration of water pollution, the wastewater treatment has become a high energy and material consuming industry. Although the biological treatment method has significant advantages in reducing consumption, there are bottleneck problems such as biological inhibition of persistent pollutants and the low efficiency of wastewater resource recycling.

Main Research Findings

1. Develop an technology of intimate coupling of the visible light response photocatalysis and biodegradation, and establish a new method of efficient degrading and recycling toxicity/inhibitory organic wastewater;

2. Establish a new method of oil-rich microalgal-bacterial granular applied in wastewater treatment and recycling, based on the cell communication between microalgae and bacteria;

3. Build engineering bacteria to degrade/adsorb estrogen and heavy metal pollutants, and reveal the mechanism of degradation/adsorption in gene expression level. These researches provide technical support and theoretical basis for biological wastewater treatment and reuse.

In recent years, the group has received 16 National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has published more than 100 SCI papers on journals such as Environmental Science and Technology, Water Research, Chemical Engineering Journal, etc.
