Based on the demand for environmental engineering professionals in the field of environmental pollution control and resource recovery, the training objectives of environmental engineering professional master are: to master the relevant professional knowledge and process the capability to solve practical issues on environmental science and engineering, to develop environmental technology, and to conduct the environmental engineering design, construction, planning and administration.
1. Wastewater treatment and resource;
2. Regenerated water utilization;
3. Environmental friendly materials.
The students should master the basic theory and professional knowledge, follow the development trend, with the ability to engage in the field of scientific research, technology development, engineering design and planning management work, and meet the basic requirements of foreign language, communication skills, team work, and comply with the relevant laws and occupation moral.
The training is based on the combination of courses learning and scientific research, classroom teaching and the extracurricular practice, followed by two tutor responsibility system. The required courses for master degree are composed of course study, professional practice and degree thesis.
Length of Schooling
The basic study period is 3 years, and no more than 5 years.
Curriculum and Credit Requirements
The curriculum is guided by professional needs and practical applications, aiming at training professional quality and professional knowledge application ability, focusing on the combination of theory and practice, highlighting the teaching and training of cutting-edge scientific knowledge and skills such as new technologies and new methods.
The curriculum is made up of modularized form, including basic knowledge module, professional development module, engineering knowledge module, comprehensive knowledge module and professional practice module. The basic knowledge module is assessed by examination, while the professional development module, engineering knowledge module can be assessed by written examination, curriculum papers and other forms of assessment.
A credit system has been established. Master degree candidates should have at least 30 credits, and the degree courses should be no less than 20 credits.
Professional practice is a compulsory part, which require a period of more than half a year in relevant practice platform or training base. Practice forms include experiential training, practical training, participation in new product development, technological transformation, process design, engineering operation and monitoring and control, safety evaluation, accident prevention and control technology research, and plant and enterprise safety production technology transformation plan design. The professional practice needs to be covered with 6 credits, which can be divided into practice training in school and practice training in enterprise or production research base.
Dissertation and Degree Granting
The graduate student of professional master must complete the credits stipulated in the training program and pass all the examination before the thesis defense.
1. Opening report
The topic of thesis should be selected under the guidance of the tutor. The report is commonly conducted in the third semester. The basic requirements are according to the relevant provisions of NENU, the reporting time should be not more than 15 minutes.
2. Mid-term examination
It should be conducted at the end of the fourth semester. The school takes the tutor group of no less than 3 persons, and checks the completion degree of the thesis work. The main contents include: research overview; complement degree, method and proportion; achievements and innovations; problems and solutions to be solved; and plan the next step.
3. Quality requirements
Each thesis is required to be completed independently under the guidance of the tutors. The form of thesis can be varied. It can be in forms of basic research, product development, engineering design, planning and design, engineering management, project management and so on. The paper should reflect new ideas, new methods and new progress in solving engineering problems, and the design content is in accordance with the national standard. The writing of a thesis is required to refer to the writing standard of the doctorate and master's degree of NENU.
The thesis adopts external blind trial in accordance with the relevant regulations of NENU. The defense is carried out at the sixth semester. The defense committee consists of 5 and more experts in the field of environmental engineering.
5. Degree granting
5.1 30 credits are required for the graduate candidates.
5.2 Publish at least 1 paper as the first author (including tutor first, student second) in domestic or foreign academic journals or domestic and international academic conference papers, or get patent or software copyright as the first author. The first signature unit should be the Northeast Normal University.
5.3 Submit a thesis and grant a master's degree through a thesis defense and approved by the degree committee of the Northeast Normal University.
This training program has been implemented from the 2017 graduate students.
